why not remote mount the intercooler out of the engine bay. then you just need room for the plumbing. under the frame. Plenty of real estate there.
cool project man.

I also plan on chopping the roof a little to give it a slick look. Then for the big part I want to putt a cummins in it. I plan on using a 98 I have for the engine and using the frame as well.i would love to see this trend continue, and more pics. I'm very interested in seeing the fire wall and floor as you finalize them so I can get my creative juices flowing.
Sounds like a good plan and thank you!

I am just worried about having anything under the truck that could break when running over dirt roads rocks and using the truck. Though this will be a show truck I plan on using it as well. Nothing would be worse than running down a dirt road and puncturing the intercooler then having dust and dirt sucked into the intake.

I am still trying to figure out a way to steer the beast, I had to overhaul a few of my other trucks these past months... been busy but nothing on this truck.

Thanks for the follow and the replies

I would go with a power steering rack, like the ones used in mustang II. That way everything is under your engine and out of the way. That is usually the most popular power steering method for street rods. You would have to make a custom leanth steering colon for it, or just get it mocked up and find a leanth and do some reasurch for a car with the length that works.
Let me know how what you think of that idea, if you don't like it ill help you come up with something else.
As for the cooler, how much room do you have in front of or behind the radiator, you may be able to find a smaller one to sleek in there.

The issue is that I may have 40,000lbs behind the rear axle meaning the mustang rack is not near enough power plus I am using semi truck tires... I tried a rack off a Freightliner but it is far too wide. I have looked at building a custom rack and pinion nad can not see a way to make it work.

The only option I see is a electric power assisted steering system most likely with a axle mounted rack and pinion. Again I need to find something stout and powerful, like off a semi truck or large box truck.

The other complication with the steering is that I have large air bags and a parallel 4-link up front meaning I need a cross steer or rack and pinion style system.

I am not as worried about the cooler because I am planning a system with Laminova cores mounted between the turbo and the intake then a radiator cooler in the nose. I at least see an option there that is feasible and reasonable.

Dodge sprinter vans had a rack steering they might be smaller, but would be able to handle the weight.

Armor it like a grill and expanded wire tread for screen. you can get stainless sheet that is perforated. or some kind of duct with an electric blower for flow. having it out away from the engine bay will help it cool too. Even the long run to the intake will lower intake temp and improve boost.

Why not use a Hydraulic assist from an orbital valve to assist the factory or a suitable sized box ? or just full hydraulic steering ....

Good point I may not have actually posted that, I believe I have 36" between steering arms. I will verify but that is the reason that no normal modern rack and pinion will work.

I agree full hydro would be great but not legal for road use and it would suck to not have a mechanical means to steer if it goes out at 70mph.

I will look into the orbital hydro assist I have not seen that before. I am leaning towards an electric assist rack and pinion, mounting the system to the axle. The issue is that nothing that is currently made will work so I need to find someone who can fabricate it.

Thanks for following!!
