another timing ? help
so im finally getting around to doing my timing, got the truck all tore apart in the garage right now and i cant figure it out for the life of me, does anyone having any simple directions?? all the ones i can find are so techincal its confusing
heres what i have, i found tdc of cylinder 1, how do i set the dial gauge up form here? if i put the gauge in the holder and set it between 7-9 and then rotate the harmonic balancer counterclockwise and i run out of shaft to drop to zero on the cam, i tried pushing the gauge as far in the holder as i could and i still dont have enough
also my gauge was missing the end piece that screws on to the feeler shaft, i called a friend who has one and he said it was a 1-1/2 long piece, so i found one that long but im wondering if thats right, can anyone measure theirs?
send me an email for a phone number as it will problay be easier to go over on the phone

maybe i made my post a little too confusing, its hard to type it out in a way so its easy to read.
i tinkered with it some more just now and think i have it figured out, i found an extention for the dial gauge so i can now read the full movement of the cam, i set the gauge up at a half way point, bottomed the cam out and zeroed the gauge, then turned the harmonic balancer clockwise back to tcd, did my math and came up with a lift of 6.2mm which is 15*, i want to go to 16.5* so im going to keep turning it another .3mm on the guage. then pull the cam gear on the pump, clean the **** out of it and rotate counterclockwise back to tdc???
im pretty sure thats right, my gauge is a bit diff from the one directions on genos garage. the small gauge reads 0-28 and goes in twos and the large one goes .00-2.0 and goes in .1mm
