the voltage guage on my truck is reading around 12 volts. i thought my grid heater solenoids were bad, so i unhooked the heaters. still problem. the batteries read 12 volts with the truck off. and 12 volts with the truck on. there is only 12 volts coming off the alternator to. voltage regulator?? the gen light has never came on?. thanks

 

r u checking with ur gauge on the dash or with a voltmeter? if ur charging 12 volts i would think it'd eventually run out and not start. if i remember correctly there was a thread asking where the voltage regulator was.. most of which r in the alt but im thinking some1 said its in the pcm on these.

 

regulator is in the pcm on 2nd gen trucks if everything is working properly its probably just an alternator.

 

i was using a multi meter.but the voltage guage is screwed up to. truck runs at like the first line on the guage. around 12 volts. gen light isnt on tho.
