I have a NP241 DLD (light duty) transfer case on my truck but it is junk. So i was wondering if a NP241 DHD (heavy duty) will work on my truck. any one done it will it work.

there should be a metal tag about 2" round that is silver with red writing on it (i think its red at least). and it will have engraved the model number. it should be on the back end of the transfer case

I just did this a few months ago. i got a 241dhd out of an auto so I had to change the input and the 241dhd slip yoke is bigger than the 241dld so that will need to be changed. Other than that it was a bolt up swap.

What do you keep breaking on it? Just curious.

The 241dld output on the left and the 241 dhd on the right

The chain on the 241hd is also thicker than the 241ld

that is true there are also 2 kinds of 241dhd's the one with the solid tailhousing has the same output shaft as the 271 and the one with a spilt housing has a slightly smaller shaft than the 271. The solid tailhousing does not have a mount for a speedo but the split shaft does.
