Default cam problems/ tranny problems

i'm looking at a 95 3500 2wd cummins auto for $1850. It has a nice body but the guy said it needs a new tranny and cam. Was the cam going bad a common problem or is something else more serious.

Plus does anyone know where i can get a tranny for cheap?

the most common problem with the cam would be the kdp hitting the cam gear. Only other thing I can think of is the cam gear it self walking off and thats just not a good thing.

unless the owner used the wrong oil or no oil at all and whiped out a cam lobe. Trannys are not cheep
