true it would prolly be easier to sell n buy a new one.. but if your like me its hard to do when you modified it just the way you like... and im nearly positive the whell base is the same, qoute me if im wrong, but when i was ordering my 5in turbo back there was no option for a short bed, i think it was just x-cab or single cab but not sure, But I am 100% positive there was no option for short bed

alright i actually have done the swap and i had a 94 reg. cab longbed and changed it to a 97 ext cab shoty 1500 body ( still have the 1500 badges on it). the wheel base is exactly 4 inches longer for the newer body. yes you do have to change a bunch of bodymounts and you WILL have to put a 3 inch body lift onto it because the cab WILL NOT clear the sending unit on the tank... i have done the swap and love it.. only took me a weekend and 2 days cuz i work full time... stotally worth the swap shitty thing was the wiring but if i could figure it out then you can..the hardest part is welding your mounts on correctly so that your body and cab line up straight as you are looking down the side. any other questions get at me.....
ps. i moved my axel back exactly 4 inches and used grade 8 hardware and re attached it and tackwelded the nuts on. i had a driveshaft made for $90 with a new tube and balanced... good luck
the wheelbase is only 4 inches diff.. but the frame is only 1/10th of an inch longer or shorter but that doesent matter. with the body lift you can still clear 33s before moving theaxel but you dont wanna haul a whole lot.
