How do you tell what turbo you have, my truck is a 97 and i cant read anywere on the turbo where it says its a dx40 or what?

Yours is an HX35. There's a small aluminum tag thats on the front side of the compressor housing. It says "Holset" and has a serial number and the model number of the turbo (HX35 in your case). Sometimes they fall off or are removed and never reinstalled during a turbo overhaul.
