Default Smokin Hot Tranny HELP!!!!!!!

My 97 auto 2500 has a built up trans its not stock but gets hot. It dosent really get hot driving unless you are pulling a heavy load on a hot day with no wind. Just daily driving around town it never breaks 170. Now i dont know what temp its suposed to be but mine gets to like 230 sometimes. My question is how do i cool it down. And why is it getting hot like this. Thanks for any help.

sounds like your cooler is clogged or your converter is slipping a tranny is supposed to run 20 degrees cooler than your engine temp

i wouldnt recomend the deep pan. sure it holds more fluid, but think about thats just more fluid that has to cool down when it gets hot. takes more time. unless its a good one that has cooling fins and such on it

Where are you reading the temp? Where's the temp sensor located?

230 coming out of the torque converter towing is normal.

i have mine on the hot side also and it has never gone over 190 and that was drag racing...... i have a deep pan on mine.... also check the fluid.... use good stuff ...

that was before i put the 2 new trans coolers on it..... the colder the better....

fyi clutches start to fail in the trans at 220*......
