Hi, I need to Know what kind oil motor for dodge ram 1996 diesel cummins. 20w50 sinthetic or different?

i use shell rotella t 15-40 in mine used it in my 07 since new and have it for my 97 when oil change comes up

20w50 might be a bit too heavy that's just me where do you live? if you live in way south I guess it's fine

You need to use a diesel oil - you cant use an oil meant for gas engines. Ive never seen a 20W50 rated diesel oil. What brand is that?

There are a lot of brands for 20w50 oil,this oil is used almost in all european cars. For the cummins I use 15W40 thank's for your help.

Yes, oils are a bit different in that part of the world.


I would recommend trying to get a API certified oil. API CI-4 if you cant find it.

welcome to diesel bombers, just use 15-40, thats what cummins recommends, i use ams oil but what ever you prefer, any 15-40 diesel oil is fine
