Default diesel "knock"

i dont know if its just me or if its my truck but the motor doesnt seem to have as loud of a "knock" as what it did when i bought it about a yr ago. you can hardly hear it even wether you are in the cab or standing next to the front end. what would cause this?

temperature and compression- your wearing it out, mine sounds like a well oiled pump jack pumping oil. It would quit running but its a Cummins.

How many miles are on your truck? I've got a block I'm waiting till spring to rebuild to fix this. I've got alot of blowby, when I pressure my inter-cooler it will push out the dipstick. Its the rings. just old and tired.

ive noticed the more timing you have the more quiet the engine runs. I noticed in your sig you dont have any timimg. i know from stock to 16.5* mine runs alot smother and more quiet than my old truck with timimg at stock. Just a thought. @ 200k i would hate to think that your engine is wearing out. unless its had poor maintence or just been run hard.

yeah i havent messed with the timing yet. the previous owner took good care of it. the truck has only been up here in iowa for abhout 4yrs. i work for the previous owner and when his brother lived down in texas he pulled a livestock trailer with it quite a bit and when he moved up here it one of the guys i work with used to drive it to work everyday untill i bought it. and the truck was lucky to see 60mph when he used to drive it to work...

i would do a compression check and see what kind of numbers you get. also check fuel pressure to make sure your still getting plenty.
