I just have one question ... why? I'm a firm beleiver of the "work smarter not harder" saying and here is my advice to ya ... Go to wal mart buy a cheep floor jack, and drop the cross member and slide it out like your suposed to. It will make life way easyer when you try to put the trans back in. |
oh it made it 10 times easyer than pulling that stupid cross member abd dropping it on the floor
the cross member is easy to pull and replace
i hate those damn crossmember:bat:
the best way I have found is to remove the rubber peice that connects the cross member, use a rubber hammer to hit the cross member up as far as you can, and slide it out.
OR use a jack to spread the frame rails appart slightly and it will fall out |
I have a cheap Porto-Power from Harbor freight that I picked up when I did my trans to pull the cross member.....mad things much easier and it's a nice tool to have in the garage.

they arent easy to pull at all there some trucks ive spent a good hour fighting that and there is no point pulling the crossmeber and tranny all the way out if you dont have to
i dont see how its possible, everytime ive ever pulled a nv you have to drop it some to get the shifter housing down below the floorboard. i have a porta-power it makes this job ALOT easier.
