How about just paying a shop, and having some with the right tools and knowledge to set it perfect. Should be cheaper than buying the tool.

You can get a timing set off eBay for about $150 and then you need to get a DV socket for $35-$50....I called and the local shop wants a minimum of $200 to do the timing. So if I am going to mess with different timing settings the kit will pay for itself after the first time.....but you have connections so you don't count Paul.

To set the timing my local shop wants $80
To me it's worth it.

I have set my timing a couple different ways, first off the right way with the timing kit an dial gauge, which works good once you figure it out. An then i have went by what a local 12 valve puller an good friend said, if you pull the pump gear off an rotate the motor counterclockwise for every inch the balancer moves is about 10* of timing. So you could set the motor at TDC, pull the pump gear, make a indicator to point onto the balancer an scribe some lines measured off on the balancer. I would mark the stock location an have the indicator pointing to that an then rotate the motor say for example 1/2" counterclockwise and that should advance the timing 5* I hope this makes any sense Its simple just complicated to type up.

The rotating the engine thing ony works if you timing has not slipped.....otherwise you have no idea where the starting point is.

that sounds like the simplest way, if the timing slipped is noticable? i mean if my timing would have slipped a couple degrees would it run rough?
