Default lag

my truck was super smokey with no fuel plate so i took the plug out of the afc and the starwheel was all the way back and the spring loose as can be i tightened it up thinking it would help the lag it dropped the smoke way down it just hazes now which is fine with me but i think it made the lag worse i want to get the best fuel mileage/ driveability i can having it lag every time i shift is annoying

i dont know what my timing is at some where around 13.5-14 but i havent had the truck timed to know exactly it breaks up when i floor it with no load so i know it needs more i havent done anything to the afc and the plate that was in it before was a #4 but i pulled it after i did my rebuild it also kind of feels like the pedal is hanging up until the rpms come up to about 2K it has stock injectors i dont think im fueling that hard down low because it just hazes a little

its the stock turbo housing. as far as what i said about hanging up when i push the accelerator it goes about 1/3 of the way down with light pressure and then it feel like i hit a wall and its harder to push past there untill the rpms come up to about 2k you can push the pedal past this point if the rpms are slower than that but it doesnt make any difference in power until rpms come up. could my governor springs be no adjusted quite right?

does your boost line have a break in it? i would check that and put the plug back in and see it there is any difference. sounds like the rack travel is hanging up on something or not moving the way it should. try playing with the starwheel some and the boost screw on the back of the afc housing.
