Default #0 plate vs grindin vs guttin

got a #5 plate now and feel its holdin some power back i want to either get a 0 plate or grind or gut, is there any pros and cons to these options and does anyone have the 0 plate profile or is just grind it flat? if i chose to take the plate out completly what are so benifits or problems. my egts are plenty low enough now so im not to worried about gettin to hot.

i've heard plenty on this debate; and been part of it and corrected once or twice... but to my understanding the 0 plate FF is just like running no plate at all; also the 0 plate is just a flat grind... no problems with running it w/o the plate (so i've been told) if you run the mack rack plug i'm pretty sure you have to run no plate as even the 0 FF will inhibit travel. as for smoke, temps all that good stuff... with out the plate profile or even just a flat profile your foot controls all of the fueling; you control the smoke, egt's and such when you mash on it with 0 boost... its going to smoke to high heaven unless your afc does its job, idk if the AFC in its maxed forward position can interfere with the travel and cut off fuel b4 it even hits the 0 plate... someon else will have to chime in and educate you, and me

To grind it, you'd just make it flat. Instead of taking it out, just push the 0 plate full forward and it'll be the same as running without a plate which will be nice because if your feel like its to much you can move it back and get and see a little difference. Alot of people will argue that pulling the plate is bad and may cause your truck to run away, as of now I'm almost at 2 years without a plate and I haven't had one issue, theirs also a couple others running plateless that haven't had any problems. The plateless cons are its full fuel at all times and your foot becomes the only "regulator" of how much fuel you as pushing. But the main thing is to watch your egts, because more fuel = more heat.

very nice guys sounds like ill try pullin it or grindin it flat, now as for the afc housing and star wheel are they both still adjuster factors if there is no plate? will i still be able to set how much fuel is being fed before the turbo spools. im hoping for a diffrence from the 5 plate it was a nice place to start but once ya got the itch it dont go away time for more power.

or should i start another 4 page thread postin and try to decide if grindin it to a 100 plate or takin it out completly is the way to go hahah

On my set up everything is gutted because I wanted to make a full blown sled truck. I'm not sure if the start wheel will actually do anything at that point. If you have your stock plate I'd use that one for grinding just in case... But if your going to grind it, do the 100 first, try it on for size. If its not for you take it down to the 0 profile. And if its still not for you slide if forward and if you like that you can gut your AFC and run plateless. I'm not entirely sure how others have done their set ups but until my aurora 5000 spools it blows all kinds of smoke especially at WOT

This is one of the arguements we had awhile back but it sheds some good light on the situation. Also running plateless only adds about 5hp or so compared to the 0 plate

i pulled my plate with the starwheel wide open and it blew all kinds of smoke, i turned the starwheel back to put quite a bit of pressure on the spring and now it only hazes and seems to have more power up high but lost a little down low until the turbo spools

if you just pull the plate and not the afc the afc still governs the fuel not your foot. even with the fuel plate in the truck the gov arm will still hit the afc arm before it its the plate. What I would do is mod the afc first before you grind or change your plate and go from there.
