Default rough start

after sittin for awhile maybe two days or so the truck doesnt want to start to easy? blows lots of white smoke and very rough idle until she warms up and its good to go. could it be feedin to much fuel to a cold motor to start with? plan to slide the plate back to where it was before this problem started tommo and see if that helps any ideas?

sliding the plate wont effect start up... at idle the arm doesnt even touch the fuel plate. diesels dont like air in the fuel. since it only does it after a day or so i'm going to say air is getting in the system somewhere. th truck really only needs to sit for X number of ours before it is considered a "cold" engine... not days. just look into the integrity of your fuel system

Usually air enters through very small holes in the rubber fuel lines (they degrade from the inside out), or at your heater/prefilter. If you havent ever replaced your fuel lines - now is the time. Its not a fun job - make sure you use diesel rated fiuel line, dont forget the lines at the tank, feed is 3/8" and return line is 5/16", and dont forget the short chunk of return line shown in the pic below (Filter canister has to come out to get to it):
