Default Jumps in RPM at Hwy speeds

Hey ya'll,

I'm new to the Bomber-Nation, and modified diesels, but not new to diesels themselves.

Iv'e noticed that my tach has been jumping from around 2000 to 2150-2200, then going back to 2000. It only seems to happen in this gear range. Its an Auto, and I very rarely use the cruise. Is this possibly related to my P7100 setup, or is this a tranny/TC related issue? Any enlightenment would help I'm sure!

might be the throttle positioning sensor, it'd kick in and out of overdrive

It is trans related since ya got a 47rh in the truck most of the time when they hunt for gears wich is what your trans is doin its a valve body problem a good trans shop can fix this just don't take it to aamco those guys will f ya over everytime

could be as simple as a faulty sensor. if it were a hunting problem there would be a noticable gain/loss in speed or drive power, and an audible increase in RPMs which he doesnt specify either; sooo a little vague on the info to get an indeffinate answer. but i do agree with aamco; they may have had a decent name back in the day... not so much now

The best fix I've found so far is puttin a 5.1v xenor diode inline with the pcm that will stop the hunting

x2 makes sense... it "filters" the tach signal

Thanks for the tip bud! I forgot to mention those not so minor details! I can definately feel a surge of power that is consistant with the rpm levels. There is also an audible increase withIn the described rpm range in the jump.

Does your od mysteriosly turn itself off or does it stay on. Also do you know if the previous owner or yourself have ever turned it off while towing. The only reason I ask is because with a dodge that is the dumbest thing you can do it will fry a trans real fast fords and chevys you have too or it will blow the motors but in a dodge even tho the manual says to do it don't it works the engine too hard wich works the trans even harder. Since you've indicated now that its a hunting problem get a xenor diode put in see if that fixes the prob also get the trans hot flushed and get a new filter put in. The other thing you can do wich is what I did junk the slush box and put a 5speed in that cured all my problems
