Default 97 12 valve sputters on cold start

my 12 valve sputters when i crank it in the morning, i have to "clear it out" like a two stroke so it wont die or get on it hard right off the bat any ideas?

Sounds like mine when my idle was really low. I'd try the idle (750 in gear with the AC on) and a new fuel filter

check the return line for an air leak or something... a diesel clattering like a 2 stroke startin up is usually air in the system... i know ours developed it the next day after noticing the truck was puking diesel fuel, sat overnight and started it up, it clattered pretty good. just check the integrity of the fuel lines, and replace the fuel filter and such...

x2 sounds like air in the fuel system. Could also be timing related , have you checked your pump timing?

if its air in the fuel should it clear up after you drive it not even a quarter mile or so? it will clear up on me before i make it out of the naborhood but if it ideals for more than two min. i play hell but just have to rev it up until it clears havn't had to bleed the fuel system yet just new to the 12 valve, never had the problem from my 24 valve

just found out someone "shaved the fuel plate" could it be the sourse of the problem, i have plans to put in a #11 plate should i wait?

nah, at idle the governor arm doesnt even touch the fuel plate... if there is air in an injector line; it doesnt clear out very fast at all... bleed the lines and see how long it takes for it to start doing it again... on this system typically if theres a leak that allows that much air in theres a way for fuel to get out...

Thanks for the info will try and get them bled, what baffles me is that as soon as it clears it wont do it until the next morning not even if it sits for 12 hours, but i did notice today that the idle was around 600 550 with the ac on about to adjust it up now thanks again
