white smoke/no power
alright guys,my dad has a 97 12 valve, stock except for a banks intake manifold.it's been runnin fine until a day or two ago,he said it aint got any power goin up hills.and he said it's blowin white smoke.he said it spits and sputters too.any suggestions?
Yup - most likely slipped timing.
White smoke = not enough heat to burn the fuel. Could be the grid heater but its probably too warm for that to be the problem. The problem could also be bad injector(s), worn injector pump, air in the fuel system, and low compression. But check the pump timing first.

Hard for us to answer.
You need a dial indicator, deliver valve socket, magnet, and barring tool:
SP500, Set, Diesel Timing Gauge
You pull #1 delivery valve and measure the amount of lift on the plunger.
If you have to ask - you might need some help
