Another post, that I wasn't about to hijack, about vacuum 4wd actuators got me to thinking. Do Dodges, like Fords, sometimes have a button or switch on the dash, and sometimes a shift lever on the floor for 4wd? All of the two I have looked at have had a shifter on the floor, next to the transmission's shifter. I have only looked at manual transmission equipped trucks. Are they all vacuum operated? Can I get one without power windows, power seats? Any other creature comforts that these trucks can be had without? I am just the kind of dude that likes manual transmissions over auto's, map and lensatic compass over gps, mil-dot scope over rangefinder (and fixed power at that!), the list goes on........ Personally, one of the 12v's most attractive attributes is its low number of things that could possibly go wrong. You would not believe how worthless dealers are on this subject.

the 94 12 vavle im getting doesnt have power seats, its got a auto (id rather have a 5 speed) , n its got the shifter on the floor for 2wd high n low n 4wd high n low.. its also got manual windows.. which is 1 less thing that can go wrong!! also manual mirrors too.

i love my nv4500 12v its the best truck i have owned. i do have alot of aftermarket power things. all i have to say is the only things electrical that have gone out is the alternator thats it

The 12Vs have few options and all have the manual 4x4 shifter on the floor. They didnt go to the push button shift until the third gens came on the scene. I think it was 2004 or so.

Yes, its vacume operated but you can switch it to a cable type if you want.


4x4 Posi-Lok - 4WD Engagement Systems

The 12V is pretty reliable but dont kid yourself - these trucks are all getting 10+ years old and are starting to get lots of miles on them. Plan on spending a good amount of time and money fixing the little stuff. My 12V has given me way more problems than my 24V ever has.

Thanks guys. I hear you there Dr. Evil. It's been said that you're either paying for them or working on them. Both my girl and my boss, coincidentally both short and stacked brunettes have late 90's Jeep Grands and the only thing that's broken on either of them are just the sort of things that I don't want.

Once you get all the issues taken care of it will be a pretty reliable truck and get better milage than the new ones to boot.

The motors will go forever, it's the truck around it you have to fix. I'm proud to say that on my 99 there is very little Dodge left on the truck.
