Unhappy wondering what i should do

hey guys just joined in today, im wondering about what to do on my shamefully stock 96. i mean im gettin beat by stock hondas with fart cans on their tailpipes for christ sake, this is no good. it has 220,000 miles on engine and tranny. ive been thinkin about doin the whole afc and plate sliding forward, and carving a 100 out of my plate, but the tranny being that old and a little sluggish on the lockup, im wondering if i should wait to do the mods until i get a fresh tranny. cuz somethin tells me if i mod it now, ill proly annihilate whats left of the converter in pretty short order.

your right your trans isn't gonna hold up long, but i guess you might as well fry it before you replace it. Check out a goerend or suncoast. ats is good too but has been getting some bad publicity around the diesel scene, you'll have to do a search on that.
Most agree if you have the money go for the goerend. You can definately get MAD power out of your 96, even with stock parts. you are running a little high on mileage but i think your probably fine until something blows up. Some auto guys can probably chime in about how much you can do with the stock trans before it starts shredding. I'm personally going to a built auto myself on the next round of money i have. Your truck is detuned compared to a 96 manual because of the auto trans, so you have room for improvement.

welcome to the site. by the way your project sounds sikk, i've been contemplating some of those 53" michelins on my dd myself.

I would install gauges first. Boost and EGT minimum. Run stock for a base line to know how your motor is operating then you can adjust the stock plate and adjust the AFC to start the learning and the desire for more. Save your money for the tranny parts or rebuild then make your stock plate a 100 and go from there.

boost, EGT and Trans gauges first then maybe some fuel mods and when the trans starts to go be ready for at least a TC and VB

Like the other guys have said, you can get some serious power out of this engine. Since I run a diesel shop I have done a few of these, for just over a grand we do a plate, springs, 4" exhaust and a intake. Not to bad, considering it should give you about 4oo hp or so. The cool thing is with a turbo and a bigger plate the sky is the limit.
