3RD Low is the best place to start, Then decide if you need to go up a gear or down a gear. Stay on the low side or the transfer case, ALOT easier on parts in the tranny.

For your auto go to the low side the transfer case, pull it down into 1 and shift manually, when in drive the reverse band is not applied in 1st it is, it will be easier on your tranny.
