48RE in 12v?
Can I put a 48RE in my 1998.4 12v? I have a 2005 48RE and converter that worked great when i took it out just sitting on my shop floor free to me. The reason i ask is this is my second 12v truck that has no idea whats going on when it comes to shifting. Ive tried everything replaced all electronics, put in shift kits, adjusted/replaced tps, messed with the TV to no avail still shifts way-way!!!! to early 1-2 at 12mph 2-3 at 20mph 3-4 at 27mph lock up at 40mph and i just cant take it any more i have to downshift manually just to speed up in traffic. I sold my last 12v truck a few years back cause i got so aggravated about the same thing. I plow snow and it stinks manually shifting the stupid thing all day long. This truck has a #100 fuel plate in stock position, no cat-muffler, and a 3k GSK not trying to make a hot rod just improve drivability.

Theres a way to remove the TPS and replace it with another electronic item that is adjustable for where it shifts. I'm trying to find the article now.
Found it; Replace TPS with a potentiometer. http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...&highlight=POT

I actually already have a pot for a tps and a new factory tps selectable on the dash via a 3p2t switch only thing it affects on my truck is lockup speed so i usually have it switched over to the stock tps. Now im thinking of taking the guts out of the 48re and O/D unit and sticking it in my 47re case and just buying a good valve body but Id be nice to just stick the 48re right in not making a ton of power and i have a 53 block so i dont really want to push it any how.

golly, if my trans shifted like yours i'd be happy. mine will go 1-2 at 5mph or less, 2-3 at 10mph. tc will lock as low as 25 in 3rd, and around 35 in o/d. the gears will hold a little longer with around 50% throttle or better. like you i have tried the electronics in trans, tp, messed with t/v cable. it seems to me it might be gov pressure high maybe idk. all shifts are solid feeling, and no slipping. i hate it and have not been able to get any good advise.

When I did the Transgo kit I had that problem too, but the directions had a "fix" for it. Basically you turn the TV screw, in or out, I can't remember which, to adjust it. You have to drop the pan to do it.

contacted BD and from what they said i think it stands for big dummy. they offered no advise and didnt have any usefull diag for me. i ordered a re-usable pan gasket because its the 3rd time in 1 month the pan has been off. when im in there i will check/adjust the tv screw and also might try line pressure adjustment too. my line pressure was in spec but maybe i need more???

Yeah the only reason mine even shifts that high is cause i have the tv cable as tight as it will go. that screw is the throttle pressure adjustment next to the line pressure adjustment screw havent messed with that yet my line pressure was at 65 at idle witch is in spec for the trans go kit but it feels like it needs more.
