Question p pump power ratings question

ok if you take a 175 hp p pump and mod it on the afc and fuel plate and rack it out and do a 3k govenor springs kit does the horse power rating matter any more???? or are the barrells and plungers diffrent delivering diffrent fuel loads, or the plunger stroke diffrent, or are the delivery valves are whats diffrent in these pumps? i also was told that you can make any stock pump work up to an out put of 275 hp as long as it gets set up properly??and that beyond that you are looking at custom mods from plungers and barrells and up, reason for this question is my stock 180 hp pump took a dump and i am looking at a 175 hp pump thats totaly stock and going to bomb the frog hair out of it, set the timing to 17 degrees and put it on my truck to get back on the road, thanks all ,

160/175 pumps can put out 500-600 hp and never be taken off the truck. Yes the rating still matters. I know the cams are different as well as dvs. Barrels and plungers im not so sure about but i imagine they are. A 175 pump can make plenty of fuel for your application. If its going to be off and you can spare the change send it to a pump shop and have them put it on a stand for the amount of fuel you want to make. Oh and your 180 has 181 dvs pull them out and put them in your 175 (131s) Basically any p pump can put out a lot of fuel. Just the 215 does it a lot easier.

NO dont do it!!! Been there done that on my 97. There "hot" pump and stage 2 ingctors with a #0 mad about the same power as a 215 with a #10. If i had to do it again I would have sent my 215 off for a rebuild. If I were you I would look for a used 215 or send off my 180. Ive seen 215s for as little as 400.00 and 180s for less than that.
