My fuel gauge has become completely unreliable lately on my '97 auto. It'll indicate full but get much below that and itll swing all over the place and now will show empty when I've get 20 gallons or more still in the tank. Thank goodness I have a scangauge which can keep track of gallons used and left. Any idea whats going on and how to fix it.

 

Sounds like a faulty sending unit or a blown fuse.

 

Thay are bad about that just like the oil gauge too. pull the bed and put a new sending unit in.

 

Agree, sending unit. $100 last I checked, $200 installed. Probably higher today/?

were did u get your gas scanner to keep track of gallons u have left thx

 

You can get a sending unit for $50 from the dealer.....anything more that that and they are trying to sell you the entire module and sticking it to ya.
