Default 12 valve intermittent power & throttle response loss

The truck will drive fine until I get in under load ie. Pulling skidloader. After about 5 min of driving the motor will stay in one RMP range and sound like a jake brake is on. If I let of the pedal it wont idle down for about 3-5 seconds. When i does finally idle down sometimes it will die.
One time when it did this I let off the pedal and put the trans in neutral......Big mistake......The engine ran to the red line out of control until I shut the key off.

I don't know what it is, Any ideas?

Sounds like throttle cable or some pump issue.

Is it a std or auto?

There was a recall on the throttle cable - take your vin to a dealer and see if its been done:

Ill post it when I can find it.

I don't do alot of town driving but the only times it happens is when the truck is at or around 55 MPH or when accelerating onto the interstate.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

it is a auto

I did call the dealer there is a valid recall for the throttle cable. I will have that replaced and then see where I am at.

Thank you very much.

I called the prior owner and the throttle cable was replaced under the recall in 2002. I visually inspected it and it looks to be in good shape.

Any other ideas?

I had the same engine dying problem at highway speed and high rpm revs...My problem was something was sticking in the IP...But first troubleshoot it to the max. Here is what I did.

Wired up the shut down switch...test
test fuel pressure.....
Take your AFC off and check that the rack is not sticking..

Here is something i forgot to ask...When the truck dies,is the pedal very hard to press when you try to restart it?

Also....when it stalls, does it start right away or do you have to wait a min or so before re-starting??
