Question Another Injector Thread

So, I've done some researching before I get flamed about not using the search button, but have been unable to come to a solid conclusion. Here is what I am faced with:

'98 12v

-370's with supposed correct spray patter
-BW66 Charger
-21* Timing
-175 Pump (Industrial UPS Engine to start)
-191 Delivery Valves
-4" Turbo Back
-Studded, etc.

The setup is currently in a 2004 superduty, running a 5r110. Besides getting tranny tuning down, which is currently irrelevant as it is getting sorted out, the truck tows like the big smoky pig that it is. I understand 370's are far from the best choice as far as being clean is concerned, but the PO used the truck as a play toy, and I need it to cruise around with 9k behind it without questioning my ability to do so. So to start, I figured injectors were a good place. From my understanding previously, my turbo was a touch on the large side, and something around a 64 would net me decent towing, yet happy playing around town on the weekends as well. The truck isn't setup to go fast by any means, and I don't have intentions of it quite frankly.

If someone were building a truck to fit these guidelines, would one first address the injector issue, or hunt down a turbo of the correct size? Through my searching I have discovered that 7x10's seem to be very responsive, yet don't have a good mid-top end.
My next search revealied that something along the lines of a 5x12/5x14 might be a good option.

Would someone care to shed some light on the subject and possibly point me in the right direction of injectors, or even go as far as to post a link for something to look at?

Thanks in advance,
Chase

With a 64 depending on your gearing it will be a little tough to tow. A 64/71 is a little big, apparently a 64/68 is a terrible combo, and 64/65 do exist and work alright from what I understand. Regardless injectors aren't the big issue it's mostly the tuning and dv choice. 5x12 or 5x14 are both fine choices. 5x14 obviously giving you more room to grow. And can be tuned down to be less hot but that's less on the towing and driving side and more on all out power, tuning and dv's are what more effects towing ability aswell as turbine size. Towing with a 64/71/14 has been done but with proper gearing to have you around 2000 rpm at desired speed. Then it wouldn't be a problem. If gearing isn't perfect you may want to look into a 64/65 or a 63/68 charger. Hope that helps a bit. Regardless both injectors are good sizes,'I wish I went 5x14 for the minimal price diff so I had more room to grow when I go 64/71/13ss

Do you have any specific turbo suggestions as far as a 63 or 64 go? Also, what's a good place to start with dv's? Are 191s overkill?

if you are really concerned with towing a 62/65 is a good choice but limits overall higher power. it will be quick spooling and fun to play with. a 63/68 is supposed to be kind of the best all around with some billet and race cover versions claiming numbers that are more common to a 64/71 and as for that one i like them but not sure on towing first hand but they are great for a street truck. that being said they have been known to to and are capable of it when used correctly. if you sit around 1800-2000 rpm in final gear od off as if you were towing then you should be able to get away with a 64/71. as for companies for an 63 id personally go e.d from the reputation they have, if i were you and want a 64/71/14 best bang for you buck is a bd special. personally installed on my buddies stock 180 pump truck, htt manifold straight 4 inch exhaust dp back, crazy carls 3.5 intake horn and intercooler pipes, 4gsk, custom 100 plate, afc mods and tuning , put down a super clean 405 hp/ 847 ft lbs and only fuelled to 3400 because the springs aren't in yet. just this past sat. about 20 min ago i installed his 191 and he's going to drive it a bit for me to let me know how much to tune the fuel back. and as for 191 being over kill my first impression of them was they weren't too aggressive but the tuning will need to accommodate them. i also personally run a set of custom taper cuts similar to many other companies special dv's and i like them, lots of fuel and would be good for a bigger turbo then what i have. i think if towing is your main concern a 65 or 68 turbine wheel are your safest bets, and if you get a high end 63/68 lets say you potentially could support 600 ish hp. 65 turbines are a bit limited on max power out put but the spool up is very quick. so it all depends which side you want to lean towards.

Sounds like a 63 is the way to go from what im gathering. Is the killer b a good option? Or, is there another specific alternative you would suggest?

Well a killer b isn't a true 63, it's actually a 61.5/64/.80 which would be better for towing then a 63/68/.80 but again it won't put out quite as much air. If you want a real 63/68 I would talk to engineered diesel. They have a great reputation and build custom chargers at a reasonable price as well as can give you a bit more info on what may work better for you. They are all built to order turbos. A killer is a good turbo and a good bang for the buck but it basically is a 62/65 turbo which is great for towing, but not a capable of power as a e.d. 63/68
