Default Overdrive problem or lockup?

I went and bought a 94 Dodge 2500 12v with a 1000 mile old tranny and it shifts like butter until overdrive. it shifts into it if im accelerating moderately hard but as soon as I try and keep maybe 50mph it kicks out. Overdrive solenoid bad? or tranny ground?
any help would be sweet. Thanks

Sounds like the TV cable is out of adjustment, or the TPS is bad. Do a google search for "dodge diesel maintenance tips" for a very nice walkthrough on how to diagnose the TPS.

I would say your throttle linkage could be out of adjustment, which will cause TPS issues ...

Check out youtube for video's on how to do the adjustments

I work on trans for a living and the output speed sensor can get a dead spot in reading and cause it to drop from 4th. After checking cable if all good there then replace the output speed sensor next.

Never heard of an output speed sensor issue on a pre 98.5 Ram. Hm.

Yea didn't look at year it is a govener unit so no speed sensor on that one just the speedo sensor. Also if it has that square switch in the dash I have seen it build up too much resistance and cause it to drop 4th. I have one in my box at work saw it the other day and laughed as thought never use this thing so if comes to that I can get it to u cheap. I also have a new three pin od/tcc solenoid if interested in buying it. Find out what u can get it for and will give u this one at half off that price. Lt1z350@bellsouth.net if wanna email me and talk about it.

'98 has the RE. I may be wrong for more like... the tenth time or so this year, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was the first year for it, making it one of many 1998 firsts for the 12v before it went out to pasture in 98.5.

I just found that out today as well 97's did have RE also ... I guess if it were a problem with O/D or Lock-up .. I would say sensors ... anything else TCM
