Ok so recently I started to hear this ticking noise in my engine as it ran. Its not a knock. Its a tick. And you can hear it through the exhaust. And it only starts after 5 seconds or so after the engine is started.

So I start the truck up. I can hear the turbo making a slight spool as it idles. And after 5 or so seconds the turbo spool dies out and this ticking noise starts and it goes til I shut the engine off. And if i start it again after the engines hot the ticking noise starts immediately. I hear it could be valve adjustment time so I got a stethoscope and poked the valve covers and 4 5 6 sound pretty gnarly. But I dont see how this would kill the turbo sound and ticking noise would pick up after a few seconds. Also checked the lift pump and I about went deaf. Its quiet loud but also heard this wont hurt a think as long as I keep a eye on the fuel pressure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Pull your valve covers and check the lash. Easy to do

 

put ur fingers on the return line nrear the back of the pump .. if its ticking with the pumping feeling .. solved ..
