Default Dually Axle

Looking into a 97 3500. Is it possible to convert to a single rear wheel? I've heard a few times that the dually axle is simply a spacer, is this true?

The dually axle inner mounting surface would not be quite as wide as the SRW that is why guys swap them for the singles. Do I know the measurement, no sorry. It may be something you could offset with a specific rim but you still have a huge hub section remaining.

If you think a dually gives you better traction in the snow and ice you have never driven one. Same weight spread over four wheels is not better traction at all. Great if you are towing a load but not better by any means.

No I was refering to towing traction and ability ... Yeah there no fun in snow unless you have some real tires and good weight back there .. wonder whay that is exactly ???

I mean one would think that with 2X the tires you would be able to have more traction , I have driven our D-max flat bed, and its never any fun in the snow .....
