Go factory thickness on the HG

get a factory gasket from dodge or cummins( fel pro is good too )

LarryB's ( or another fuel shop of your choice will have it )

Manny dealers here ( go to get a quote and see if anyone awnseres the call )

ARP 2000's ( E-bay for about 425$.... 12MM studs )

That should get ya goin ( if you are doing the head studs your self remember your rocker pedistals have to be milled .200" @ bolt hole for clearence and correct intallation ).

Naa, you may wanna talk to an injection shop about washers to space your injectors , so u get the correct spray pattern in the piston bowl, and don't end up with high EGT's and smoke issue's

no , a flat head (decked flat that is ) and studs are generally good to about 500 hp ( 40-45psi boost ) , anything above or beyond your pushing your luck ..

make sure you know how much the head was decked as its may be important to your fuel shop in the advisment of the washers under your injectors ( if there stock sticks, you most likley willl be just fine , but just incase ) ...

When I had my head milled (.008" as well) I was told to keep the injector washers, and I went with a thicker HG.. BAD mistake, didn't work well at all, much harder to start! If you get the head milled, have them make sure the valves get reground to the right recess, then you absolutely don't need the thicker HG... I've known of 2 of the thicker (Cummins) head gaskets dying even with ARP studs... On mine it scored the #3 cylinder so badly because it leaked oil into the cylinder.

you do NOT need to mill your rocker pedestals, you can take a die grinder and cut out the reinforcing bracing on the rocker cover to accommodate the higher nut. I've done it a couple times and it works fine.

4x4manonbroke, you're the first person I've heard say Felpro HG's are good

Used fel pro on manny ISC builds with no failures to speek of ...

Used felpro on manny IDI and other Diesel engines with out a failure to to gasket failure's ...

I have taken a fel-pro and inspected side by side with a Cummins ( as manny have ) , there the same thickness, made from the same materials, etc ...

Why do you think there bad ??? few failures with them , manny with the Cummins Genuine ... you take your chances either way I think ... 20 years re-building engines from Briggs to S60 and ISX Cummins ... Genuine is not always the way to go .. in fact on my 8V92's I use McBee , An dhave outstanding sucess over the Genuine Detroit gaskets .....

Its all about the oppinion of the person you ask ....

Strange.. the felpro I compared to the Cummins was a different material, had a far thinner fire ring, and less sealing goop around the coolant passages. The Cummins are made in China now anyhow. I would like to know of another quality HG manufacturer.
