IMO its best to take the turbo off to drill it. This way you know you got all the shavings out from the hole you just dirlled. The wastgate is a pretty simple thing to adjust its a rod connected to an air diaphram with a spring in it. for more boost tighten up on the rod for less loosen.
You could also invest in a boost elbow, this pinches off the boost signal allowing more boost to be built. its adjustable and pretty cheap.

Hey jkidd and 94 12valve. I finally got around to adjusting my wastegate and I'm kinda stumped I lossened the rod on the actuator and nailed it the first time, I'm now hitting 35-37 psi at wot witch is what I want but the wastegate is creeping open and it doesn't spool nearly as fast as I would like ( kinda the reason for getting a hx40/35 hybrid) I'm just wondering if you can get a blow off valve or something so the wastegate will open at around 35 psi other than creeping open all the way from 5 psi.

unfortunately for you this happens when you ask so much from a small factory turbo. you have a waste-gate spring that is designed to hold back maybe 20-25PSI of drive pressure before it is overcome. now that your truck is making twice the HP it did stock it is making way more drive pressure then it was designed to hold back and you are seeing some creep. you can install a larger waste-gate actuator to help or a spring gate.

I loosened the actuator arm because the wastegate was never opening but I found out the guy who had it before me put a fitting in between the elbow and the turbo that plugged the line, so I took that off and that's we're I'm at. Thinking about just plugging it back up for now because the lag is rediculous, I'll try tighting the arm back up before I decide tho, and thanks turbo 2332. Maybe I'll just blow this one up and get a new one. any suggestions? Lol
