I have a 1996 dodge 2500 12 valve cummins with a nv4500 5 spd. My issue is I have a grinding noise when I up shift in 2,3,4,5 gear but its intermittent but not when I down shift, it only happens in 2wd, 4wd it doesn't make a sound, I have drained the fluid in my transmission to check for any obvious damage or shavings aswell as drained the oil in the t-case but nothing, this just started a couple days ago but I did just put a new clutch in a week an a half ago, any connection? Or could it be my transfer case? I'm confused, I'm a heavy duty mechanic but this ones got me beat at the moment

could it be that your hydralic assembly is weak and not getting the new clutch disengaged like it should?

 

YUP, Sounds like ur clutch is hanging up a bit ... and yes I would check your throw on the slave cylinder ... bet thats ur issue ... Good call by six speed

 

What did you put in it for fluid ?
