Bull. The head is to be surfaced when doing the job. There's much more than "straightness" when considering the sealing surface. Fix it right or don't fix it at all.
AGREED ....

First off, if it was only .01 mm off, I doubt there's a machine shop IN THE WORLD that could get it closer than that.... However, if it was .01 in (ten thousandths) off, that's getting close to the handbook's straghtedge "warping" tolerance. Like mysterync said, "straightness" is one part, flatness, smoothness, and uniformity are others. At ten thousandths off, that could be enough to channel coolant out. They could have overmilled it and issued you an overthick head gasket to compensate (that's what I did on mine and I've been trouble free at 45 psi of boost, with studs, for over 10K now).

Just $0.02....

sorry I didn't read all the posts but if you didn't get new head bolts with the gasket then that is a no no. by the time you consider new bolts the studs aren't that far away.
head bolts are a one time use.
