death wobble are no
ok guys i got a 96 2500 4x4 long bed with front wheels spacers, after market wheels and 37s. They guy said he never balanced the tires but when i hit the speeds at about 60 and up it rattles and shakes alot the faster i go the worst it gets and when i get down to 55 its fine. Just wondering if its the death wobble and i will buy the trac bar. And i am in the process of buying factory wheels with new 35s and taking off the front wheel spacers any input guys.
If he never balanced the tires I'd say it's doing exactly what any vehicle with unbalanced tires does. The "death wobble" isn't exactly a vibration, it's the front end doing more or less whatever the hell it wants and you constantly over-correcting your steering inputs to keep it somewhat straight. This can be caused by any one or more of a whole host of design flaws inherent to the steering setup in these trucks, of which the trac bar is only one potential culprit- and not all of these trucks suffer from it initially. I don't think the spacers are your problem either. I'd get balanced tires on there before spending money to address problems you may not suffer from (yet). One thing at a time, most obvious issues first. Good luck.
I had death wobble in my 97 4x4 long bed sitting on 35's and slightly lifted. It was the worst experience ever. Any small bump at 35mph+ would cause it to shake ferociously. A new adjustable trac bar and a steering box stabilizer fixed the problem!
