wow, i hadnt even thought of the dowel pin. i guess it wouldnt matter how much work you had done to your engine if that tiny pin shook loose and ruined the motor eh?

Yep gotta agree with ol smokey. If you have an auto trans I would get it built before you do anything to the motor. If you get a 4k gov spring you might wanna look into gettin stouter valve springs though.

I like the '98 best myself. Baddass all mechanical 12V of the '97 and older trucks, with the spiffy fresh interior of the '98 and newer trucks. Also, better designed HD steering.
Before getting into anything else though, I'm a little surprised nobody asked... what exactly didn't you like about your '01 24V?

Definitely sounds like something was wrong with it, for sure. I understand not liking the VP44 though, not having a 12V pretty much defeats the whole point of having a Cummins for me. Not that it isn't still a great engine, but if I wanted to have to mess with chips and tuners for performance I'd just assume get a newer Duramax.

ya or a 6.4 Ford.. them are awesome.. but i recently heard that a stock vp44 with a big lift pump would support 500 hp an i was like no way them are small pumps! but i wonder if i would of blocked my wastegate if i would of got like 30 psi.. when would the wastegate open on the stock turbo?
