Its ALWAYS a good idea to upgrade the transmission. At LEAST do a Transgo Jr. Shift kit. its inexpensive and helps a little when you start adding power.

IMO, for plug and play tuners, PPE is about the best for a Duramax. If you want to set yourself up with the ability to expand your tunes later, EFI is the obvious choice. You can get EFI Live and a custom tune from many vendors.

My only advice.. and this is purely my OPINION.. stay away from Bullydog.

PPE, Edge, Banks are all good choices.

oh.. and Welcome to Diesel Bombers!

I have PPE and it has more than enough go for my Turbo.. But I was starting again I would go the EFI route with DSP 5 switch and just buy some good tunes to go with. There is lots of Vendors that will help u with that..Then maybe thro in a CTS Insight for gauges. I don't know your budget but this would be IMHO.. Then if you upgrade later or want a change then its just a matter of changing the Tuning..I think you can get EFI and five tunes with the DSP5 switch for bout 1250$ I think PPE is bout 700-800 something like that so you can see were I'm coming from..

Take this from expierence.. UPGRADE the Trans BEFORE ADDING POWER.. there are many options. If you have a local shop that does allison work, many of our vendors can get you a rebuild kit with or without a TC that will hold much more power than stock. Believe me, it sucks going thru 6 transmissions and 5 TC's in 2 yrs because you have not done things in the correct order. I know that extra power is fun and EXTREMELY tempting, but towtrucks and transmissions down the road are very inconvienent and expensive.
