This is just my opinion, but because you are so new to diesel I would get a PPE or "canned" programmer. I had a predator in my LLY and liked it alot, on the highest setting it was still pretty safe.

I would then research and learn more about diesel tuning, then maybe an EFI live.

Others may disagree, but you can make your truck run like crap if you do not tune it properly, the "canned" programmers are set up to run good without doing damage (except some transmissions).

You are going to see people on all sides when it comes to programmers. Alot of what yo are going to read, is what someone else has read, it is better to get opinions from actual users, versus copying posters.

It is really what you decide on, I have never used either so I cannot help. I have used quadzilla, hypertech, PPE (currently), predator, superchips and of them all my favorite is the PPE and predator was second. Hypertech and Superchips were my first on my LB7 when I was new to diesel. Quadzilla, Predator and PPE on my LLY and only PPE on my current truck.

My PPE is the favorite, because of the tech support, service after sale and quality of the tuner. I cannot and would not say the same for the others I mentioned.

I would look at exhaust, gauges and transmission upgrades.

Saying that tuners are "canned" is not always 100% the truth. while yes they do come with pre-loaded tunes, the way they are being presented is like we do not spend time to make these tunes. the tunes i posted in the vids above ive spent hours looking over maps and on our dyno trying to make something that works well yet still stays emissions friendly. But you guys are also right.. what works great on one truck does not always work well on the next truck

also in a round about way if you just buy pre-tuned efi live tunes you are buying just another canned tune. I by no way am bashing on efi live here.. i have it, i use it. its amazing what you can do with it.

with all that being said.. how much money are you looking to throw at your truck? how fast are you wanting it to go?

if your wanting the baddest it will cost $$

first off i wouldnt waste ur money on bully dog. i would go with efi live and a dsp5 switch to change tunes.

the stock allison will handle 400-450 hp
