This idea has been getting thrown around, from the the 3 people driving around (including me) in a 98 quad cab dodge truck. We do a few 2k mile road trips every year, usually with this truck. Long story short, really thinking on cutting the back of the cab off, and welding on the rear of a 94-98 xcab on. Cut the frame in half, and stretch it as well. Even had the idea to put a front seat in the back as well. Figure it should hit about the size of a mega cab. Its a dually now, and I would keep the 8 foot bed. Parking isnt an issue where I am (BFE) and industrial areas for work, so everything is built around semis anyway.
Anyone looked into this idea, or even seen it done? On the more work, way cooler, thought of cutting the suicide doors in half, stretching them, and using the donor early body for sheetmetal to put in. So 4 full doors, just have to open the front first still. Rumor has it, and Ive seen one that looked homemade, a crewcab cversion of this body style exists in Mexico? |

why not use durango rear doors and seat. that way you could lay them down and have a table for the far back seaters. so your door order would go normal front then durango rear doors and then your ex cab part. personally i think that would look the best.

Taking some more measurements, and looking at things. extending the floor and roof, and stretching the suicide doors about 12" would be pretty easy. However, to have a front seat in the back, and comfortable, somewhat reclined position, Ive figured out I need to stretch it 20" Which puts everything very close to megacab. So, this would either require a good bit of work in making new middle sections of suicide doors, splicing 3 sets of suicide doors together, OR using some front doors, for rears.
Here's the thought now, get a standard cab truck (cheap), pickup an extra standard cab, for the roof and floor sheet metal, and set of doors. Cut the doors down so the front edge becomes the back edge of the mirror. I believe doing this the rollup mechanism will stay in tack. Ill need to rework the front corner of the door, have new glass made, and major reconstruction for the hinge mechanism, and mounting to the cab. Off to ponder more! Props to the guys who did the 6 door megacab, but I gotta say, should have stretched the bed, at least to 8' if not a 10' box. |

I own a machine shop, and have sheetmetal tools as well (30 ton press brake) So Im not worried about the fabrication end. Just the time involved, and having it come out looking factory. If I get close to having what the previous post shows, Ill burn it down!

Seems to be a loosing deal. Still a lot of work, but not getting roll-down windows, and having it look goofy, doesnt seem worth it. Now I just gotta come up with some free cash, shop space, time, a truck, and donor cab! |
