I disagree , 99% of "high Performance VB's" are stock dodge VB's with a TFOD installed

Alot more goes into building a High Performance VB than just dropping in a Shift Kit. Sure you can install a shift kit but how do you know all the pressures are correct and going to the correct places? Suncoast also builds there own custom Seperator Plates. If you install a shift kit and something is not 100% correct your going to do your transmission more harm than good.

Some of the biggest names in Transmissions use the Transgo Shift Kit , they get your core back put $150 into it and sell it to the next guy for a crap ton of money its a vicious cycle and we lose.

I have the Sun Coast Pro Loc Valve body , Paid out the *** for it , my tranny shifted so hard the glove box would nearly come open when going into lock up , i took it to a fiends tranny shop to have the valbe body turned down , he called me back and said HOLY COW this thing is all bored out there isnt much i can do with it , but if it just had the tfod i could adjust it to yaour likeing , this vb is extreme ill turn down what i can but your stuck with it .

knowing this i suggested just the tfod to 3 of my friends with ion the next 6 mths , thay all took my advice , i drive all there trucks and it was way way better than my over priced over hyped big name big $$ valve body .

When in indy i drove another truck with a gorend TC , it was awesome i asked him what vb gorend put in and he said its my stocker with a tfod

me =

Trying to sell stock Valve bodies with no more than a TFOD installed then requesting a core is currupt and nearly all tranny shops try to pull this fast one on us.

there is no need to buy the after market valve body if its anything more than a TFOD your probably not going to like how it shifts and your stuck with it.

This has been my experience im not a tranny guru and in extreme performance things are different , but for a daily driver / toy the TFOD will be more than you need and will allow adjustments to make it just how you want

I'm not going to fued over this, but i am going to say after talking to ton's of trans builders including Ernie at suncoast. This isnt the case. When a customer purchases a valvebody from suncoast, they have a custom cut divider plate, the VB has been on a pressure bench, each spring and ball is adjusted and tested out of the truck. Most companys revamp the valvebodys , some use new electronics and so on some do not.
I assure you THERE is a HUGE diffrence in the line pressure and holding abilitys, Throttle valve adjustments and so on. For instance, One company installs the VB in a transmission and loads the tranny on a dyno, At that point it's ran through the bases and tuned according to how the CUSTOMER requested the truck to shift.

I'm not here trying to sell anything....If anything there's more profit in the transgo kits.

There's alot more to Suncoast, ATS and DTT valvebodys than a simple shift kit install.

Heck, Even Olee Poole will tell ya that! The ProLoc is designed according to all of our information for race applications. When ordering a valve body, we go through about a 20 min convo with the customer, then the same convo with suncoast. The valvebody is tuned according to the customers request plain and simple. I've never had a problem with one shifting to hard, or not shifting hard enough. We explain exactly what the customer wants and I've yet to have any complaints!

Good Debate for sure.

I would trade my Pro Loc for a stocker with a TFOD if they were side by side and ready to install.

Ive driven 4 trucks 3 with the exact same torque converter , same stall and everything and all 4 of the trucks shifted less violent than mine. there is a big difference between Firm and Violent .

out of all these trucks , i drove a 6.0L Ford with a stock transmission and the stock tranny shifted firmer and smoother and put all the dodges ive driven with stock or built transmission to shame WAY BAD ! the Ford was damn near like a hydrostatic pure kick ***.

I have had my Valve body adjusted 3 times before i gave up on it , the only way i could get my tranny to work right was to go with syntetic tranny fluid and run the hell out of the truck till it lossened up.

If im not being clear on my Suncoast TC and VB , i couldnt even put my truck in Drive when below operating temp w/o killing the engine , it was that bad ... on a call to suncoast they said they would swap me but i had to send mine back and buy the new one ...... uhhhh , no thanks

Sounds like you got one that wasent set up for your likings, the trans shops do use some aftermarket parts like what come in shift kits. But they do some things a lil different and your paying for the labor of going through and rebuilding the valvebody as it is fairly time consuming. And also some times they get cores back that are worn out of spec and they have to either replace or repair certain bores. Shift firmness can be changed very easily but once you open it up so much you can go back smaller without a new seperator plate, or changing some springs. The Transgos are good kits for guys with moderate power.

Thanks for the offer Lucas but the time has past i already made other changes to compensate for it, after 5 sets of injectors i found a set larger than stock that didnt kill the engine when you put it in Drive
