6.0 with 29,000 actual miles - oil cooler issue
Bought new '05 6.0 Turbo Diesel F350. Used as tow vehicle for boat and car. Since I rarely use it, I was completely surprised when I was told about $2000 to repair oil cooler. WHAT? How did Ford escape this recall? Out of warranty I am stuck with this on a fairly new truck.
Have become an expert over the weekend and came up with this solution:
1). Ordered upgraded factory oil cooler, EGR delete, and coolant filtration system filter from custom diesel for $740.
2.) Ordered new coolant reservoir tank & cap from rockauto for $43.
3.). Not sure what labor will be by independent diesel shop?
Learned this whole process is common problem and old news to the 6.0. Hope my head studs, gaskets, and studs are okay. Ridiculous how external oil cooler kits are all around $1700 and higher to correctly fix. WTF?
I also heard a lot of repairs use the Oreilly's Doorman brand oil cooler replacement for $200 then sale or trade their 6.0. Wow!
Just venting.....
