are you adding a turbo? adding more fuel isnt really going to give you much more power. the injectors in these trucks only pop at 136 bar. and are pintle style. nothing compared to the 5-7 hole injectors out there. then injectors are just inside the valve covers. the lines that run from the pump go right to them. -

im wonder if its normal for this year and engine to have a hard time starting in the morning i live in utah county in utah. i bought a kats radiator heater that i plug in at night, i replaced the glow plugs. ive tried to push the glow plug plug a couple times to try to help get it fired up. last resort is spraying starter fluid in airfilter. and that starts it right up. oh also i just replaced the alternator and fully charged my batterys. so if anybody have some helpfull advice or experience of there own with same or close year of truck. please email me at plisonbee@hotmail.com thanks tons

IDI's dont like the cold much at all, its pretty normal for them to be a pig to start when its below freezing, your timing might be slightly off with it -

![]() ![]() f my glowplug timer is go on and off when i push the botton thats means working that would mean that im getting power to my plugs right???? or not.could that still mean that i have a short some where in the line?/ pre owner rig it so that the glowplug dont start with the ignition key its seperate button underneath ... so im supper confused i figure that the botton and glowplugs work if I can hear the timmer turn on and off but this is my first diesel so im probable totaly wrong.... also i changed out the fuel fiter and ran tranmistion oil in it and let truck idel for about 1/2 hour.. i heard thats the best to clean out the injectors but havent tried to start it since.. thanks---AutoMerged DoublePost--- okay so i just tested the glowplug connectors and they tested out about 6 omh.. is that good or bad. and when testing the conectors do i need to be pushing the glowplug botton? does that make a tons different.. - Last edited by black smoke; 03-11-2008 at 07:22 PM.. I would set your gp up on a manual switch, so you can control them. The 6.9 controlers fail ever so often, and the glow plugs never really get hot.
Never start it up with ether and glow plugs, thats a combo made for a disastor. If you have to start it up with ether, make sure you glow plugs arent working. You can get a lot of power from turning them up, even N/A, the only problem is that EGT's will get crazy high fast in N/A form. They can run up to 1200* stock, so be careful. Your glow plugs are good, it just sounds like your glow plug controller isnt working (to my knowledge). Mine has started down to 16*F, but it turns over a little slow due to bad battery cables. I'm sure I could go down to single digits without a real problem, it would just take a good amount of cranking (took a good 8 seconds for the 16*F, but you could count the rev's, so its turning over to slow). - |

My dad just bought an 86 F250 with a 6.9L diesel equiped with a hypermax turbo kit. It has new batteries in it and has no problems starting in -10* nebraska winter weather. he cycles the glow plugs twice and on the second cycle he cranks the engine. Runs a little rough for a few seconds but what early cold diesel doesnt. He has the block heater on a timer also. Its only on for 4 to 5 hours. The thing runs like a dream!! -

Best way to test glow plugs is with a 2 amp battery charger. Clamp the ground on the wrench part if they're out of the engine, if not find a good spot on the engine. Touch the positive clamp on the tit-where the wire plugs onto it. If you need a little further reach, find a small welding electrode. If it sparks heavy, it's good. If it's a small to moderate spark, it's going. If there is no spark, it's dead. -
