Default 1994 cummins dies....

Help!!

Ive a 1994 cummins that idles fine, but as soon as I drive it couple blocks from home it dies. Starter turns it over, and fires back up. Seems like it is running out of fuel. when i let it idle (with foot on pedel) for few it runs fine for couple blocks again.

1. new lift pump
2. new filter
3. fuel heater removed
4. pre-filter clean
5. pick up in tank is clean
6. new rubber hoses....

this thing is driving me crazy... when it dies, it doesnt seem like it was due to air in fuel as it starts back fairly easy, but will not idle immediatly with slight miss.

I certainly no diesel mechanic, so any suggestions would be great!

Are these symptoms of sucking air?

Is there somthing in pressure pump that can cause intermintant failure?

also has new pressure overflow valve.

I wonder if the water drain valve under fuel fiter could be sucking a little air>

you would need someone to look at it, there could alot of things going on.

they way you describe things, I would look for a short soemwhere, check all wires.

start with the ground.

fuel relay shut off is only thing that could be electrical. It's fine. I have not put on fuel pressure gage yet.... stuff ordered online. things in casper wy hard to find in town.

I just wonder if its possible for the water drain on filter to leak air. seems to me like its always under pressure when truck is running, so couldnt suck air. just seems like its running out of fue, but maybe I'm chasing wrong thing. could turbo be the culprit?

thanks though. The thing i love about this truck is that the computer does not control any engine stuff. purely mechanical.

my woman says get rid of truck... take it to the "trash". I say Hel... NO!

i would think that if your injection pump was fubar then ur truck probly wouldnt run at all. Dirty injectors? Dirty IP screen? pinched fuel return line? Maybe take it to a shop and have them run a compression test? Good Luck

what does it idle at? does it dies right after you let your foot of the throttle? Are you running the A/C while driving it? My 96 12v would die with the A/C on if the idle wasnt set at or around 750-800. hope this helps.
