Sad Not Starting

My '05 Jeep Liberty CRD is not starting. She is a daily driver 300,000mi, I live 10mi from town so when I go it is on I-40 10 mi to anywhere. She is reading OBD2 codes
P0183= Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit High Input
P1265= Manufacture Control

I changed out fuel water seperator filter last month when she died going out the driveway(red light must be burned out), then air out of lines, then ran for about 50 mi.
Fried the starter when I couldn't get it started easily. Most likely on last leg anyway.
Today, I changed out Fuel Temperature Sensor
So I'm into it over $300
After I start it with ether, she runs good. Driven down the road and I-40. Update died going up the hill 1/2mile out.
Just an old fart new to forum, internet and computer for that matter.
I'm not much of a mechanic either.
Any Ideas?

There's A LOT that can make the CRDs not run, they are more computer than car, so if any of the conditions in the computer are not right, they will not run.

P1265 is glow plug code, you would need to check the resistance on the glow plugs to see if they have failed (this could cause hard starts in cooler weather, but it should run).

P0183 is temp sensor in fuel head, this may be the biggest thing to your poor running/non starting issues.
Can you tell me which fuel filter head you have? You can identify it from the plugs on the front, the two plugs on the front of the filter head, if both are black, you have the old design, it should be replaced, its could be fried out, and probably leaking and sucking air into the fuel system, unplug both plugs, if you see diesel residue or burnt up plugs, this is probably the root of many of your issues.
If you have one black and one blue plug, you have the new design, not likely to be leaking air.
If in doubt post a photo of the fuel filter head.

If you have the old fuel head setup here are the part numbers to order the new fuel head and harness from your dealer:
fuel head: 68043089AA
wire harness: 68043086AB

I should also note, I have heard they shouldn't be started with ether, I can't back that up with any reasons why, it's just what I've heard, and with the crazy high costs associated with repairs of our little Italian diesel's I personally am not going to risk it,

Answer: I have the old 05 stock filter. She is all stock.
Today she starts!! It did have small air leak. I'll have to replace filter system after year end. Lack of cash. (I replaced wrong fuel sensor at $105, on top of motor not on filter housing)
More info on code P1265, it was glow plug #3.
Mech friend ran a high end computer on her and stated I need fuel sensor and fuel heater as well as EGR replace. Time to do the mod.
Need to wait till I can afford to do it right in late Jan.
Thanks for your input.

Sometimes you can prime the little hand pump on the filter head if you are having issues starting it due to air leak, but the only real fix is replacing the housing, sounds like you are on track to replace it, that should fix most your issues.

From what I have read, some of the glowplugs can be a real pain in the butt to get to, I am not looking forward to having to do mine.

I am waiting for some "extra" money to come my way so I can get the "Green Diesel Engineering" tune for mine, it will disable the EGR in software without causing a check engine light (also adds a bit of power and increases mileage). Right now I have my MAF sensor on the airbox unplugged, which also effectively disables the EGR, and I just live with the CEL being on for now.
