the damage seems to be centered around water in the fuel. better filtration is always good but better water remover would be high on the list too.

see here: Duramax Fuel Filter, Duramax Diesel Fuel Filter, Duramax Fuel Filter Change

the updated filters that contain the coalescing media in them seem to work many times better at protecting the injectors.

if you want to take it further then i like the idea of adding the 2 micron cat filter in line with the stock filter. if you can find them cheaper then put it ahead of the stock filter. if it is more expensive then put it after.

i have been thinking of going to a truck graveyard and finding a filter housing that takes large cheap filters and using it as a pre filter.

Why dont you have your cake and eat it too? Put both filters on and run your favorite additive. I have two racor filters in parallel to reduce the flow for better removal and less pressure drop but I would like to put a cheap prefilter on it too ahead of the racors
