Default white smoke. help!

I have been getting water in fuel and I found out my seal is bad and I am replacing it but the other day it was blowing white smoke and not running right and was chuggin but how bad is that hurting my vp44 and hurting the truck and wat should I do after I clean the tank out. Should I bleed the pump or what would be best? Thanks for all the help and I hope to be gettin a fuel system soon to aviod water and other thingsx

The seal on top of tank where the fuel pump sits
