dodge tow mirrors.

electric heated towing mirrors were not available on a dodge until the 3rd gen. there are several companies that offer aftermarket MIT units but I would be wary of them. I bought a pair and they shake terribly going down the road, they also dont adjust in or out any where near as far as the stock ones do. but they do work. I just wish they worked better.
I have been touing with the idea of selling my old manual towing mirrors, but i haven't decided if i want to or not yet.
Where ya located in SE Iowa?

Power heated tow mirrors came on the 02 2nd gen I believe. If your truck didnt come with them from the factory, you have to order an adapter bracket from the factory that goes on the inside of the door behind the door panel. I put them on mine with no issue. The mirrors have longer studs so you have to have the bracket so they bolt up tight.

I'm not too far from Keokuk, My wife grew up in Fairfield and Washington and went to college down in Canton. We make about 4-6 trips to Keosaqua every year for the bass fishing at Seguma.
I looked for 4 years after I got my 01. They were not a factory option until 02 on the half ton trucks (3rd gen body style) and 03 on the 3/4 & 1 ton + trucks. The wiring is there in the door because it is the same wiring as the standard mirrors which were available heated & Power. Vcustoms86 is correct, the mounting studs are longer. And there is a reinforcement bracket that needs to be used with the towing mirrors otherwise the stamped steel door deforms and things dont work right. (so they say). the actual mirror head, arm, and wiring are the same as the 3rd gen trucks but the part that actually mounts to the truck is different. I have talked to guys that wanted them bad enough before the aftermarket came out with them that they bought a set of 2nd gen manuals, a set of 3rd gen manuals and swapped out the bases. I never wanted them bad enough to pay almost $1000.00 from dodge for 2 sets.
If your cousin is gonna put them in his 01 cummins he is gonna have to get not only the mirrors, but also a set of reinforcement brackets, a mirror control for the interior, and a replacement heater selector console. that is where the push button for the mirror heat is located. I got all the interior pieces off ebay for about $50.00..... now, if I could just get someone to donate a set of 3rd gen mirrors I could make a set that doesn't shake

Ok so did your truck come with power heated mirrors? Not the tow mirrors. Just the regular ones? Mine did and it was a very easy install. I saw you needed the bracket because the mirrors i got, the threads were fully exposed with no threads inside the door to allow me to tighten it down. I got my mirrors new for 150 and the brackets i think were 20 each.

I see that I spoke incorrectly in my last post, let me see if i can clear up what I meant.
No, Mine came with the factory towing mirrors (Manual) but all the wiring was in the door since it is an SLT model. what I did was order the aftermarket power/heated towing mirrors. Then from E-bay I ordered a factory interior switch that mounts on the inside of the door to aim them, an HVAC control with the heated mirror button in the lower left corner (trucks without the power heated mirrors had an HVAC control without that button). since all the wiring was there all I had to do was swap the parts. All I am trying to say is Don't think that the made in China towing mirrors are the same quality as the OEM ones because they are not.
Prior to the aftermarket ones coming out (about 1-1/2 years ago is when I first found them that were the same style as the OEM and not those CIPPA things that that look like Cheby mirrors) the only way to make a set of 2nd gen power towing mirrors was to take the bases off of a 2nd gen manual set and swap them onto a 3rd gen set of power mirrors so you could mount them on a 2nd gen truck.
I hope that makes sense.
