Hi Billy;

Hopefully this into isn't too late: I have over 35 years with vw diesels; strictly the Mark I and Mark II series of Golfs, Rabbits, Jettas, Karmanns (converted) etc. Right now I have a better half demanding a convertable (that's cute, etc etc) & a daughter learning to drive. I have a spare 1.6 NA that's going to get swapped in to a suitable donor. Minor changes required (empty tank, get rid of the gasser parts/circuits not required etc).
Bottom line is this: Assuming the car is converted and done, nothing teaches common sense driving quite like a 58 horsepower car. Passing? you need a calender to plan the event. (teaches patience). Won't be getting goaded into any races either. And here's a side benefit. Dead simple to fix (no computers); and maintain....for the daughter. Mine now understands the evils of prolonged idling; the pointlessness of going near redline and now power-shifts by ear....and how maintenance means she'll probably never use roadside assistance. The Cabrio (esp. mk2) is the best example of a simple swap IMHO. No fumes creeping back up to the occupants with the top down (exhaust pipe pointed 70 degrees down at the back) and a constant smile from the lovely mileage this puppy gets. Thanks to her high school science class; is now interested in bio. (wait till she finds out what re-sealing an IP is all about :tttt:).

My 2 cents for you,
Cheers,
Andy
