Convertable options
My daughter will be driving soon, she wants a convertible, and needs an auto. What are my options on body styles? I'm all about MPG, because I'll be paying for fuel no dough, this is definably a long term investment so I want a nice reliable ride. Gota take care of the girls:tu: I know nothing about TDI's, but I would love for her to have one.:tu:

Convertible V6 Mustang:tu:
19mpg city, 25-30mpg highway Nevermind, i just saw you wanted a diesel... sorry |

I was thinkin I seem a TDI bug before:humm:
|
I know a guy who drives a TDI beetle. It's not a convertible though
|
VW has built the Golf 3 and is building the 5 as an convertible in europe the old TDi with 90 hp, the new 5 with bigger hp, same engine applies for the beetle convertible.
Audi build currently the A3 as an TDi convertible, some goes for the BMW 1 |
You CANT go wrong with a tdi, but I DONT think you can get a convertable tdi... Yes, they make beetle tdi's.
|
There has never been a convertible diesel car sold in the USA. If you want one, you'll have to buy a cabrio or rag top beetle and swap in a TDI.
|
Isn't it cheaper to import one? 1300$ shipped to Houston.
No hassle, no problems... |
Seems like a lot of trouble for a first car. Focus on safety and fuel economy, let her get some experience behind the wheel, then go searching for her dream car. Maybe for a college graduation present. Her dream car will probably change a few times between now and then, no need dumping a bunch of money into a passing phase. Good luck.:c:

Hi Billy;
Hopefully this into isn't too late: I have over 35 years with vw diesels; strictly the Mark I and Mark II series of Golfs, Rabbits, Jettas, Karmanns (converted) etc. Right now I have a better half demanding a convertable (that's cute, etc etc) & a daughter learning to drive. I have a spare 1.6 NA that's going to get swapped in to a suitable donor. Minor changes required (empty tank, get rid of the gasser parts/circuits not required etc). Bottom line is this: Assuming the car is converted and done, nothing teaches common sense driving quite like a 58 horsepower car. Passing? you need a calender to plan the event. (teaches patience). Won't be getting goaded into any races either. And here's a side benefit. Dead simple to fix (no computers); and maintain....for the daughter. Mine now understands the evils of prolonged idling; the pointlessness of going near redline and now power-shifts by ear....and how maintenance means she'll probably never use roadside assistance. The Cabrio (esp. mk2) is the best example of a simple swap IMHO. No fumes creeping back up to the occupants with the top down (exhaust pipe pointed 70 degrees down at the back) and a constant smile from the lovely mileage this puppy gets. Thanks to her high school science class; is now interested in bio. (wait till she finds out what re-sealing an IP is all about :tttt:). My 2 cents for you, Cheers, Andy |
