What kind of milage can these cars go? I know diesels can go long ways but just checking to see if these little engines are same way. I see alot with 100k around 10k in price, trying to find girlfriend car for college and I'm just to much a diesel head. I just don't see point in a car that gets good milage off two engines when theres one that gets better with one engine......

I'm looking mainly at the Jetta, 04-07.

I know with mods you won't get huge Hp increase but how does the transmission take another 20-50hp? I told her if I bought her one she could Dyno and race it when I go to events.

the TDI's are manufactured from 1.2L (VW Lupo) up to 4.2L(VW Phaeton) all of them run forever, if you take care.
The oil specs are very strict, they demand for very high quality, so this can be a bit pricey.
Modifications are mainly done with bigger intercoolers to maintain high hp during heat season, and chip tuning. Of course, as always, if you pay more, you can do more. But in this case simply get a bigger engine from the begining, the 2.0L TDI's are pretty cool.

It will mainly be bought for milage, but I can't keep anything stock. My 09 only last 3 weeks before I broke down and bought mods. I've been looking at a Jetta, but it would be nice to be auto because I don't think my girlfriend wants to shift driving around Tulsa.

My wife has a 11 6 speed man. and loves the hell o out of it! around 43mpg here in the mountains. I do know the 06-08 auto's suck, they have some bad part that explodes and totals the whole trans and parts are very very hard to come by. Good luck but we sure do love our TDI

I've got an 06 with the 6 speed auto. It's rated at 56 mpg highway...and it does it. As for modding it, its kind of dumb to put $450 into a box that will give you 20 HP. Nothing wrong with the auto transmissions, and you can't get newer than 06 in diesel, until 2011. They revamped emission standards. They are strict on maintenance, 80,000 mile service calls for timing belt and everything in the timing cover, water pump, pulleys, everything. The 40,000 mile service is a trans fluid/flush. Bought ours with 15,000 on the clock, just rolled 96,000 last week, no problems, no brake pads, jury services and tires.
