no problem man i wish i had someone tell me this stuff. i had to plug around tdi club for months to learn all this info. i dont really think these turbos have silencer rings. to tell you the truth my turbo screams even though my car is stock but i got a different turbo that is a little bigger than yours. but to really get some whistle just cut off the muffler. these engines are pretty quiet when they are straight piped so it doesnt affect your driving that much but youll sure hear that turbo. also take off your engine cover.

i know my engine has a ton of sound paddening underneath the cover. i took it off and the turbo started to be a lot louder. plus the engine had a little bit louder growl to it too. to tell you the truth though intakes and exhaust systems are not going to do much for power. they are already pretty efficent from the factory.

does the smoke switch require a 30ohm resistor? or just t tap the wires and go straight to the switch?

On a '99 there isn't much you can do for power. Be careful about adding too much fuel to that little block - it can't handle the boost and will crack. Rod bend easily over 200 HP but the block will crack well under that with boost over 20psi.

Generally, air and injectors with a little bumped timing is about all you will want to do. If you want to do studs and a good gasket you can go with a larger VNT 19 or 21 turbo or even a set of twins which I know will fit - I just haven't done it to my 2003 yet.

Fitting the car with a FMI (front mount intercooler) is about the best thing you can do - get one from a Ford mustang and it fits almost perfectly.
